Brunei Payment Gateways: BIBD QuickPay, Baiduri BPGS, Baiduri MerchantSuite, and Pocket Pay Compared
Shopify Payments is not available in Brunei. Here are the four local gateways you can integrate with a self-hosted online store.
If you sell products or services online in Brunei, you need a payment gateway that works with local banks and local customers. Shopify Payments does not operate in Brunei. Stripe's availability is limited. PayPal works but not every Brunei customer has a PayPal account. The answer is one of Brunei's local payment gateways. Here is how they compare.
BIBD QuickPay
BIBD QuickPay is a QR code-based payment system built into BIBD's NEXGEN Wallet. Customers scan a QR code at checkout and pay directly from their BIBD account or linked debit/credit card. The flow is Scan, Pay, Confirm. Receipts can be saved to email. Merchants apply through BIBD's merchant strategy team.
QuickPay works well for in-person payments (retail, F&B, service counters) and can be integrated into online checkout flows through BIBD's merchant API. For a business with a physical presence that also sells online, QuickPay connects both channels to the same payment infrastructure.
Best for: businesses that already bank with BIBD, want QR-based payments, and serve customers who use BIBD NEXGEN Wallet.
Pocket Pay
Pocket Pay is a BDCB-licensed mobile wallet (license PS-001) that lets customers pay by scanning a QR code, same as BIBD QuickPay. It is also the most developer-friendly Brunei payment gateway: it provides a REST API with full Swagger documentation, native SDKs for Android and Windows, and a WooCommerce plugin. If you run a self-hosted WordPress site with WooCommerce, Pocket Pay integrates directly into your checkout.
Customers can store multiple debit and credit cards in the Pocket app. For online checkout, the WooCommerce plugin handles payments. For in-person payments, customers scan a QR code. No international gateway, no currency conversion fees, no rejected transactions because a customer's bank blocks international payments.
Best for: e-commerce businesses using WordPress/WooCommerce, businesses that need a documented API for custom integration, and any business that wants QR-based payments with strong developer tooling.
Baiduri Payment Gateway System (BPGS)
Baiduri BPGS is Baiduri Bank's online payment gateway. It handles card payments (Mastercard, Visa) through a hosted payment page or API integration. Customers enter their card details on a Baiduri-hosted page, which reduces PCI DSS compliance requirements for the merchant.
BPGS is available to businesses with a Baiduri business account. It supports one-time payments, recurring billing, and refunds. The hosted payment page approach means you do not need to handle card data on your server at all.
Best for: businesses that bank with Baiduri, want card-based online payments with minimal PCI compliance burden, and do not need a full developer API.
Baiduri MerchantSuite (by Linkly)
Baiduri MerchantSuite, powered by Linkly, is Baiduri's online payment gateway. It processes card payments (Mastercard, Visa) through a hosted payment page or API integration and supports one-time payments, recurring billing, and refunds. Linkly is a well-established payment technology provider in the Asia-Pacific region.
Best for: businesses that bank with Baiduri and want a hosted online payment gateway with minimal PCI compliance burden.
Quick Comparison
| Feature | BIBD QuickPay | Pocket Pay | Baiduri BPGS | Baiduri MerchantSuite |
| Payment method | QR code | QR code | Card | Card |
| WooCommerce plugin | No | Yes | No | No |
| Developer API | Merchant API | REST API + SDKs | API available | Linkly integration |
| In-person payments | Yes (QR) | Yes (QR) | No | No |
| PCI compliance | Wallet-based | API handles it | Hosted page | Hosted page |
For a self-hosted WooCommerce store, Pocket Pay is the obvious choice because of the native plugin. For a Baiduri business customer wanting card payments online, BPGS handles it through a hosted page. For a BIBD business customer, QuickPay provides QR code payments. Pocket Pay also offers QR code payments for in-person transactions. Both QuickPay and Pocket Pay support QR payments, covering the payment method most Brunei consumers use daily.
