About Proxmox VE
Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) is an open-source server virtualisation platform that combines two virtualisation technologies under one management interface. KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) runs full virtual machines with any operating system. LXC (Linux Containers) runs lightweight container-based virtualisation similar to Docker but with full OS environments. The web-based UI lets you manage both from a single dashboard.
Proxmox supports enterprise features including high-availability clustering, live migration of running VMs between hosts, software-defined storage with Ceph, built-in firewall, and scheduled backup/restore with Proxmox Backup Server integration. It is deployed as a bare-metal ISO and is widely used in production by hosting providers, enterprises, and small businesses. Licensed under AGPLv3 with optional enterprise support subscriptions.
